Damian R. Murray

I'm Damian Murray, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Most of my research  incorporates elements of social psychology, cultural psychology, and evolutionary psychology.

As a social psychologist by training, much of my research broadlyseeks to understand how context influences behaviour, attitudes, and value systems. I explore this question in the following ways:

1) How does one's immediate social and environmental context influence behavior and cognition?

2) How do regional differences in environmental contexts lead to contemporary cross-cultural differences in personality styles, social structures, and value systems?

3) What social and environmental forces existed during the deep history of humans (say, between two million and ten thousand years ago) that have led to the evolution of the specific cognitive capacities and biases we see in humans today?

For more specific examples of my research, see my research interests or publications.
